Jamie Foxx appears to be the first celebrity to offer Kwanzaa greetings for the holiday starting on Thursday. The celebration honors African heritage in African-American culture, and this year is observed from December 26 to January 1, 2014. With so much Christmas hoopla, the star didn’t forget to offer a special greeting to those fans who celebrate the Kwanzaa holiday.

“Happy Kwanzaa!” tweeted Jamie Foxx from his official Twitter account. The entertainer shared a picture of his table and a look at his patio for the fans to see he was ready to celebrate the occasion. It was an extremely colorful moment that reminded everyone that the world is still celebrating during the holiday season.

Kwanzaa was created in 1966 by Maulana Karenga and people from around the world celebrate in a week of festivities. The name Kwanzaa comes from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza,” meaning “first fruits of the harvest.” Offering food, gifts and good company people come together to celebrate with friends and family.
